NATAL’s 20th Anniversary

Tribute with President Reuven Rivlin

Twenty years ago, Judith Yovel Recanati and Dr. Yossi Hadar (z”l) first conceived the idea of a trauma center for victims of terror and war in Israel. Nearly twenty years to the day, NATAL was invited for a reception at the home of Israeli President Reuven Rivlin to commemorate its 20th anniversary.

“Post trauma victims may suffer from a transparent injury, but they must not be transparent victims. The establishment of NATAL has changed the Israeli society, changed the discourse on post trauma, helped the Israeli society recognize the victims and give them a hug. For this we all thank NATAL – the activists, the donors and of course NATAL’s wonderful patients.”
– President Reuven Rivlin (translation)

Program Spotlight: NATAL’s Helpline

Help in Israel is Just a Phone Call Away

At age 25, Adam, an IDF combat veteran, was left with lasting psychological wounds following his service. As a reservist, he felt great anxiety and knew that if he was called again to fight, he would not succeed in doing so. Adam called NATAL.

Adam spoke of his harrowing military experience, his fears, and the ethos of “heroism” which made him feel the need to hide his feelings.

Instead of living with the crippling anxiety and fear which trauma cause in his daily life, Adam is learning to simply live again. Adam continues calling NATAL.

The only one of its kind in Israel, NATAL’s toll-free Helpline provides over the phone crisis intervention, psychological and emotional support to thousands of Israelis who suffer from trauma symptoms due to terror and war. Manned by highly trained volunteers, the Helpline serves as the gateway into NATAL, referring callers to NATAL’s Clinical Unit or other professionals organizations as needed.
